Hopkins Prairie

Hopkins Prairie in the heart of the Ocala National Forest is a perfect example of Florida's unique landscape. . . flat, filled with varying sizes of lakes, tall grasses surrounded by thick forest of pines, oaks and sabal palms.

Walking the perimeter of the prairie, exploring it for the first time was exciting. No sound other than the breeze, birds and bugs (the holy trinity of Bs for landscape painters). I didn't have time to pant on site because of a huge thunderhead rolling in from the east so I took lots of photographs to paint from in the studio.

Check back here to see the paintings as they come off my easel.
